Chinese Scientists Develop Mosquito-Sized Drone for Military and Medical Use

Chinese scientists have created a tiny, mosquito-sized drone that could be used for both military and medical purposes. The drone has been developed by a robotics lab at the **National University of Defense Technology (NUDT)**, a prominent institution in China.

The drone was showcased in a report by **China Central Television (CCTV)**, where **Liang Hexiang**, a researcher at NUDT, demonstrated the miniature drone. He described it as “a robot drone the size of a mosquito,” adding that such small robots could be used for collecting information and conducting special missions in battlefields.

The drone features two tiny wings that resemble leaves and exceptionally thin legs, making it look remarkably similar to an insect. The prototype can be controlled via a **smartphone**, which is a significant breakthrough in drone technology.

According to reports, building such small drones presents a major challenge, as it requires fitting components such as **sensors**, **power devices**, **control circuits**, and other small parts into a compact frame. These challenges are compounded by the need to maintain the drone’s lightweight nature while ensuring it has the necessary functionality.

Apart from military applications, such drones could also have important **medical uses**. For example, they could be deployed for tasks such as monitoring the health of patients, delivering medications, or carrying out tasks in hard-to-reach or sensitive areas.

This breakthrough highlights the growing potential of miniature drones in various fields, from **surveillance** and **intelligence gathering** to **healthcare** applications, where their small size and agility could be extremely beneficial.
