“World Bank, Punjab Government Agree to Accelerate 10-Year Development Plan”

Lahore: The World Bank and the Government of Punjab have agreed to accelerate work on a collaborative 10-year development plan aimed at improving education, healthcare, social welfare, and public services across the province.
The decision was made during a high-level progress review meeting chaired by Punjab’s Senior Minister Maryam Aurangzeb, following the direction of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif. The World Bank delegation praised the quality of initiatives under Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s leadership, particularly in the sectors of education, health, and inclusive social development.
During the meeting, a review of the country’s three-month strategy and proposed funding for ongoing and upcoming projects was conducted. Participants included Chief Secretary Zahid Akhtar Zaman, Chairman Planning & Development Nabeel Ahmed Awan, and secretaries of all relevant departments.
The World Bank and the Punjab government agreed on ensuring transparent use of funds and avoiding project overlaps. Emphasis was placed on the importance of the Punjab Social Economic Registry Data and the Delivery Support Program for social protection.
Progress on key projects such as the National Health Support Program, Punjab Tourism for Economic Growth, and the Family Planning Program was also evaluated. Discussions included strategies to address climate change resilience and modernization of the agriculture sector.
The meeting highlighted the need for a sustainable water supply system in all rural areas of Punjab and discussed the development of provincial resources and improved use of digital systems.
Minister Maryam Aurangzeb expressed gratitude for the World Bank’s continued support and funding for social improvement initiatives. The World Bank delegation appreciated the governance, pace, and quality of project implementation under the leadership of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.
