Tehreek Tahafuz Ayeen Pakistan Backs Call to Postpone Azad Kashmir Elections

Islamabad: Tehreek Tahafuz Ayeen Pakistan (TTAP) has announced its support for postponing the upcoming Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) elections, citing concerns over the current political environment.

According to the party, it supports the demand to delay the elections and has also called for a joint session of Pakistan’s Parliament to formulate a national strategy regarding the situation.

Speaking on the issue, Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar said the government should brief Parliament on the national strategy and announced that the alliance has decided to hold public rallies across the country.

Earlier, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar announced on social media platform X that the party would boycott the AJK elections scheduled for July 27, 2026. He said the decision was made after consultations with the party leadership and its allies.

Barrister Gohar stated that the current circumstances do not meet the requirements for free, fair, and transparent elections. He added that the party has also suspended the parliamentary board’s ticket recommendations and the hearing of appeals by affected candidates, saying all decisions are being made in the interest of the country, the nation, and democracy.

PTI had earlier reiterated its support for the people of Azad Jammu and Kashmir but maintained that it would not participate in the electoral process under the existing conditions.
