Justice Mansoor Ali Shah Urges Accountability for Judges Who Surrender to Power

Islamabad: In a landmark verdict related to a service case, Supreme Court Justice Mansoor Ali Shah has issued a powerful statement emphasizing judicial integrity and courage. He called on judges to identify colleagues who surrender to external pressures, asserting that it is the duty of the judiciary to confront such internal weaknesses.
The verdict states, “Judges must expose those among them who lay down arms before power. This is not betrayal but a core expression of loyalty to the Constitution.” Justice Mansoor emphasized that only with moral clarity and institutional courage can the judiciary uphold the rule of law.
“Calling out such individuals is the highest form of service to the judicial institution,” the decision reads. “Judges must act with honesty and bravery, confronting both internal and external transgressions that threaten judicial independence.”
He warned against the lure of short-term personal gains, labeling them as “illusory and temporary,” and reminded that the true reward for a judge lies in preserving the dignity of the institution and maintaining public trust.
“History will remember those who stood firm in defense of principles,” Justice Mansoor wrote. “A judge’s legacy is built not on flattery but on principled dissent. Courts must not fall prey to expediency when the spirit of justice is at risk.”
The decision described courts as “the beacon of constitutional morality and guardians of democratic integrity,” asserting that the Supreme Court is not merely a dispute resolution forum but the “constitutional conscience of the nation.”
“History will not absolve judges who abandon their constitutional duties,” he concluded. “It will remember them as accomplices of injustice.”
