Air India Flight Crashes After Takeoff in Ahmedabad; Boeing Shares Tumble in U.S. Market

Ahmedabad: An Air India passenger flight bound for London Gatwick Airport crashed shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad, Gujarat, on Thursday. The aircraft, identified as Flight AI171, had 242 passengers on board, including former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani.
According to media reports, the crash occurred within 10 minutes of takeoff. Following the incident, all flight operations at Ahmedabad Airport were temporarily suspended.

The ill-fated aircraft was a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, which first flew in December 2013 and was delivered to Air India in January 2014. Flight tracking platform FlightRadar24 reported that the plane began descending rapidly after reaching an altitude of 625 feet, with a vertical speed of -475 feet per minute. The flight’s signal was lost at 10:08 AM local time, less than a minute after takeoff.
As of now, there has been no official confirmation regarding casualties or survivors. Rescue teams are on site, and emergency response efforts are ongoing.
In the wake of the incident, shares of Boeing Co. dropped by more than 6% during pre-market trading on the U.S. stock exchange, reflecting investor concerns tied to the crash.
