Karachi Police Issues Advisory to Banks: Security to Be Provided for Citizens Withdrawing Large Amounts

Karachi: In light of the current security situation in the city, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) South Karachi, Manzoor Ali, has issued a significant advisory aimed at enhancing the safety and convenience of citizens, particularly at banks.
The advisory emphasizes that bank security guards must be not only experienced but also professionally trained. These guards should be equipped with bulletproof jackets and metal detectors, and banks must ensure the installation of walk-through gates. Additionally, mobile banking security units should be established to enable immediate response in case of emergencies.
Banks have also been instructed to install CCTV cameras with at least 8-megapixel resolution capable of effective night-time recording. The footage must be backed up for a minimum of 30 days. Any suspicious individuals found loitering in or around banks without a valid reason should be reported immediately to the nearest police station.
According to SSP South, ATM machine locks should be automated. Furthermore, guards must only be recruited from registered security companies, and a thorough background check must be conducted. Preference should be given to those with a military or police background.
Each bank branch is required to assign a designated staff member to monitor the performance of the security personnel. All entry and exit points should be connected to modern security systems, and the central alarm must remain active at all times.
Crucially, the advisory concludes that if a customer withdraws Rs. 500,000 or more, the bank must inform the nearest police station so that full security can be provided to the individual.
