Heavy Rainfall Expected Across Most Parts of Pakistan from July to September: PMD Issues Monsoon 2025 Forecast

Islamabad – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has released its initial forecast for the 2025 monsoon season, warning of above-normal rainfall and rising temperatures across most parts of the country from July to September.
Speaking at a press conference in Islamabad, Director General Mehar Sahibzad stated that central and northern Punjab, upper Sindh, and eastern Balochistan are likely to experience intense rainfall, which could lead to flooding and other environmental risks. Conversely, southern Punjab, northern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Gilgit-Baltistan may see below-normal rainfall during this period.
The forecast also includes a warning of unusually high temperatures, particularly in Sindh, Balochistan, and southern Punjab. The extreme heat could accelerate glacier melt and potentially trigger glacial lake outburst floods (GLOFs) in northern areas, raising the risk of flash floods.
The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued an advisory in response to the forecast, warning of severe storms, heavy rainfall, and hailstorms across various regions, especially in:
Islamabad and Rawalpindi: Thunderstorms and hail expected between 6 PM and 11 PM today.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: Peshawar, Charsadda, Swabi, and Mardan may experience heavy rainfall, hailstorms, and strong winds.
Southern Punjab: Rahim Yar Khan and Sadiqabad are at risk of storms and torrential rains.
Azad Jammu & Kashmir: Muzaffarabad and Neelum Valley expected to face storms and heavy rainfall.
Gilgit-Baltistan: Heavy rainfall may lead to landslides in mountainous areas.
The NDMA has advised citizens to take precautions, avoid unnecessary travel during extreme weather, and protect crops, vehicles, and solar panels from potential damage. Emergency preparedness measures are being recommended nationwide to mitigate the impact of the anticipated weather events.
