Karachi: Courier Firms Replaced by Motorcycle Riders in High-End Weed Smuggling Network, Reveals SIU Investigation

Karachi:A **new method of transporting high-value drugs** such as *weed* has come to light as law enforcement uncovers a shift from courier companies to **motorcycle delivery riders** operating via **online booking platforms** in Karachi.
This revelation emerged during the interrogation of **Abdul**, a suspect arrested by the **Special Investigation Unit (SIU)**. He disclosed that premium-grade weed — valued at **Rs. 35,000 per gram** — is now being discreetly delivered across **Karachi’s upscale neighborhoods** through a sophisticated and low-profile delivery system.
Abdul’s interrogation revealed key details:
* The **weed is smuggled from Iran**, entering Pakistan via **Mand**, **Dahriji**, and reaching **Saeedabad** through a network of motorcycles using routes that have previously been used to dispose of murder victims — such as in the **Mustafa murder case**.
* The **Aaskani gang**, led by **Hasnain Baloch**, operates the smuggling network remotely from Iran.
* Once the contraband reaches **Saeedabad**, it is received by **Hanif Baloch**, who then coordinates its sale.
* Buyers — often from affluent areas — contact the network online and pre-pay for the drugs.
* A **small slip** is handed to the motorcycle rider with the **delivery location and recipient’s name**. To avoid detection, **riders do not use mobile phones** during delivery.
The use of **motorbike riders** as couriers in the drug trade highlights a **growing trend of criminal networks adopting gig economy models** to evade law enforcement scrutiny.
Authorities say the investigation is ongoing, and efforts are being made to **track down the wider network**, including financial transactions and digital footprints.
