Crackdown on Illegal Rickshaws Announced; Electric Cars, Green and Pink Buses to Launch Soon – Says Balochistan Transport Minister

QUETTA – Balochistan’s Minister for Transport, Mir Liaquat Lehri, has announced a forthcoming crackdown on illegal rickshaws operating in Quetta city, alongside the launch of multiple new public transport initiatives aimed at modernizing the sector and providing better services to the public.

Speaking to the media, Lehri revealed that the provincial government will soon introduce electric cars on Quetta’s roads, with fares set between Rs. 15 to Rs. 20. These electric vehicles are expected to offer citizens an affordable and environmentally friendly commuting option.

As part of the broader transportation reform plan, the minister announced that **17 new green buses** will be launched in Quetta by **July**, and **four pink buses** exclusively for **female passengers** will begin operations next month during morning and evening hours.

Additionally, the government has decided to operate an **Orange Train** from **Kuchlak to Sariab Customs** using the existing railway tracks. Lehri stated that this project will provide significant convenience to daily commuters.

He further added that **21 new buses** are ready for service — **17 for Quetta** and **4 for Turbat** — all set to be rolled out in July. The transport minister emphasized the provincial government’s commitment to enhancing transportation facilities across Balochistan and asserted that there would be no compromise on the rights of the people.

“Our efforts are aimed at transforming the transport infrastructure to meet modern standards, reduce pollution, and offer safe, reliable travel options, especially for women and underserved communities,” said Lehri.
