Generative AI Threatens Jobs of Women and Office Workers, Warns ILO and Polish Research Institute

Geneva:A joint study by the International Labour Organization (ILO) and a Polish national research institute has warned that generative artificial intelligence (AI) could significantly disrupt jobs, particularly for women and office workers, posing a growing risk to employment security in high-income countries.

According to the report, women’s jobs are nearly three times more likely to be affected by automation than men’s in high-income economies. Around **9.6%** of women’s jobs in these regions may be impacted, compared to just **3.1%** for men. Globally, the study estimates that **4.7%** of women’s and **2.4%** of men’s jobs are at risk due to automation driven by AI.

Generative AI technologies are increasingly automating routine clerical tasks such as data entry, document formatting, and scheduling. This trend could lead to narrowed job responsibilities, stalled wage growth, and potential declines in job quality.

The report stresses that without adequate digital skills training and inclusive AI governance policies, women in particular could face heightened job insecurity.

The ILO and its partners have urged **governments, employers, and labor unions** to take urgent action: upskill workers, foster social dialogue, and ensure that AI becomes a tool for progress rather than an obstacle to equitable employment.
