Reko Diq Mining Company Holds One-Day Training Workshop for Community Relations Team

Nokundi: Reko Diq Mining Company organized a one-day training workshop aimed at enhancing the capacity of its Community Relations officers. The workshop focused on raising awareness about environmental protection, ecosystem restoration, and compliance with regulatory standards.
During the session, environmental experts and senior company officials briefed participants on strategies to mitigate the impacts of climate change and protect local ecosystems. Community Relations Department Manager, Ali Dost Yalanzai, highlighted the ongoing development projects in nearby areas under the Reko Diq project, which are directly benefiting local communities. He stated that the company is actively working in the fields of healthcare, education, skill development, and scholarship programs. Additionally, the Reko Diq team is committed to mitigating the environmental impact of mining operations to ensure long-term benefits for nearby areas such as Humai, Mushkijah, Essa Tahir, Nokchah, Lashkarapp, and Durbancha.
On the occasion, Community Investment Lead, Essa Tahir Sanjrani, announced a partnership with a national-level institute to support local graduates in accessing higher education opportunities. He emphasized that this initiative would pave the way for better employment prospects. Furthermore, through collaboration with Hunar Foundation, hundreds of local youths have been trained in technical skills to support future employment opportunities within the Reko Diq project.
Senior Environmental Officer, Tanzil Khan, explained that while mining is essential for the extraction of natural resources, it can negatively impact the environment. However, responsible companies like Reko Diq Mining are taking significant steps to minimize these effects. He discussed land reclamation after mining, including reforestation, soil improvement, and restoration of native vegetation. Measures like dust suppression, noise control systems, and water sprinkling are in place to protect local environments and public health. The company also plans to implement treatment plants to recycle water and safely dispose of chemical waste to preserve underground water reserves.
Senior Geologist, Bashir Ahmed, informed participants about the mineral-rich Tethyan Belt, located at the heart of Asia. He said the region, blessed with abundant resources like gold, copper, chromite, and lithium, plays a crucial role in regional economic development and holds significant value in global markets.
The workshop reinforced Reko Diq Mining Company’s commitment to sustainable development and socio-economic upliftment of the local communities.
