COAS Takes Responsibility for Medical Treatment of Children Deported from India

Rawalpindi/Islamabad – Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir has taken full responsibility for the medical treatment of two Pakistani children suffering from congenital heart disease who were deported from India in an abrupt and inhumane move by the Modi-led government.

The children’s father, Shahid Ahmed, a resident of Hyderabad, Sindh, had travelled to India for the treatment of his two children. He expressed his deep gratitude to the Army Chief for providing immediate medical support at the Armed Forces Institute of Cardiology (AFIC) in Rawalpindi.
According to Shahid Ahmed, he arrived in Faridabad, India, on April 21, 2025, for his children’s heart treatment. Medical tests were conducted on April 22, and surgery was scheduled for the following days. However, on April 24, he received a notice from the Indian Foreigners Regional Registration Office, instructing him to leave India within 48 hours.
Shahid strongly condemned the actions of the Indian government, calling them inhumane and unethical. “Modi’s extremist policies benefit no one,” he said. “Humanity transcends all religions, including Hinduism, which also teaches compassion.”
He explained that it took him seven years to obtain a medical visa for India, but even during active treatment, the BJP government expelled them, denying essential medical care to innocent children.
“I’m immensely thankful to COAS General Asim Munir,” said Shahid. “My children are receiving far better treatment at AFIC than I ever expected. The doctors are competent and compassionate, and I have no concerns about their medical care.”
Dr. Mehboob Sultan of AFIC informed the media that both children, Abdullah (9) and Minsa (7), were born with heart defects. They have holes in their hearts and weak pulmonary arteries. He confirmed that their treatment will be carried out in phases, with the first surgery scheduled in the coming days.
Dr. Sultan added that AFIC regularly performs surgeries for congenital heart diseases and is fully capable of handling such cases without the need for foreign treatment.
