Pakistan Meteorological Department Forecasts Rain and Thunderstorms Across Multiple Regions Starting May 5

Islamabad, Pakistan:The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a weather alert, predicting widespread rain and thunderstorms starting Monday, May 5, across various parts of the country, including Karachi, Sindh, Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, and the northern regions. The weather pattern is expected to last for several days, bringing heavy winds, hailstorms, and possible lightning strikes.
The department forecasted that the rain, thunder, and wind would begin in Karachi this evening, with temperatures expected to peak at 37°C. However, due to high humidity, the weather will feel much hotter. Karachi’s residents should prepare for potential thunderstorms and gusty winds.
According to the PMD, light rain with thunder is expected on Sunday in areas including Jamshoro, Tando Mohammad Khan, Badin, Thatta, Shahdadkot, Hyderabad, Matiari, Tando Allahyar, Mirpur Khas, Sanghar, and Shaheed Benazirabad. The forecast also predicts rain in areas like Umerkot, Tharparkar, Badin, Hyderabad, Matiari, and Jamshoro, while scattered rain with thunderstorms is expected in Ghotki, Sukkur, Khairpur, Mirpur Khas, and Tando Mohammad Khan.
In addition, rain and thunderstorms with the possibility of severe hailstorms are forecasted for Islamabad, Pothohar Region, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and various parts of Azad Kashmir. The ongoing weather disturbances are expected to bring further disruptions across the affected areas.
In light of these severe weather conditions, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and Provincial Disaster Management Authorities (PDMA) have issued safety guidelines for the public. Citizens are urged to take precautions against urban flooding, landslides, and sudden flash floods. The authorities have also advised people to avoid unnecessary travel, particularly in areas prone to landslides.
The PMD has cautioned that strong winds, hailstorms, and lightning may damage weak buildings. In recent stormy weather conditions, two people lost their lives due to lightning strikes, and 24 others were injured, with nine buildings suffering partial damage.
The public is urged to stay updated on weather conditions and remain vigilant during this time of hazardous weather.
