India Violates Indus Waters Treaty by Constructing Three Dams, Indus Water Commission Submits Detailed Report to Government

Lahore – The Indus Water Commission has submitted a comprehensive report to the government detailing India’s violations of the Indus Waters Treaty. According to sources within the Commission, India has constructed three dams – Baglihar (2005), Kishanganga (2010), and Ratle (2016) – in direct contravention of the treaty terms.
Each time, India faced setbacks at the international level, including censure from the World Bank and neutral experts. The Commission sources revealed that the dams were built under the guise of political motives and national security concerns, with India now using incidents such as the Pahalgam attack to justify unilateral actions, including the effective suspension of the treaty.
The legal consultation process within the relevant departments has been completed, and further decisions will now be taken at the governmental level. Importantly, under international arbitration laws, unilateral suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty is not legally permissible.
Pakistan has also prepared initial groundwork to issue a formal notice to India, seeking a detailed explanation for the unilateral suspension of the treaty.
