Pakistan Auditor General Uncovers Rs7.02 Billion Financial Irregularities in Water Resources Ministry
ISLAMABAD:** The Auditor General of Pakistan (AGP) has uncovered financial irregularities and violations of rules amounting to **Rs7.02 billion** in the Ministry of Water Resources (MoWR) and its attached departments during the **2024-25 fiscal year**, according to a newly released audit report.
The audit reviewed **112 administrative units**, examining expenditures worth **Rs359.6 billion** and receipts totaling **Rs194.2 billion**.
Despite the extensive irregularities identified, auditors confirmed that only **Rs2.821 million** had been recovered between January and December.
The report highlights serious weaknesses in the ministry’s internal control systems, widespread violations of public procurement rules, and significant administrative failures across the Ministry of Water Resources and its subordinate organizations, including the **Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA)**.
According to the Auditor General, the detected irregularities have been categorized into **seven major areas of institutional failure**, with the largest share linked to deficiencies in financial management. The report calls for stronger oversight, improved governance, and corrective measures to prevent future financial mismanagement.
