Pakistan Convenes National Security Committee Meeting in Response to India’s Actions After Pahalgam Incident

Islamabad:** In response to India’s escalating diplomatic and strategic actions following the Pahalgam attack in Indian-administered Kashmir, Pakistan has convened a crucial meeting of the National Security Committee (NSC) today, chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
According to Defence Minister Khawaja Asif, the NSC will discuss a “comprehensive and appropriate response” to India’s measures, including the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty and restrictions on Pakistani nationals. “The issues raised by India will be addressed in detail during the meeting,” he said. “India cannot unilaterally suspend the Indus Waters Treaty, as it is not a bilateral agreement alone – other parties are also involved.”
Khawaja Asif emphasized that Pakistan is prepared to respond as decisively as it did during the 2019 Balakot-Pulwama crisis. “Just like we gave a historic response during the Abhinandan episode, we are in a 100% position to respond now as well.”
Sources indicate that the meeting will be attended by top civil and military leadership. Discussions will center on internal and external security dynamics in light of what officials are calling a “false flag” operation in Pahalgam. The NSC will also assess India’s “unrealistic and hasty” water-related moves and other diplomatic actions.
India has announced a series of aggressive steps following the Pahalgam attack, including:
– Suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty with Pakistan.
– Closure of the Attari border crossing.
– Cancellation of all SAARC-related visas for Pakistani citizens.
– Orders for all Pakistanis in India under SAARC visa exemptions to leave within 48 hours.
– Declaration of all military advisors in Pakistan’s Indian High Commission as persona non grata.
– Reduction of Indian diplomatic staff in Islamabad from 55 to 30 by May 1.
Additionally, the Indian Ministry of External Affairs confirmed that all previously issued SAARC visas for Pakistanis are now void, and that no new travel under this scheme will be permitted.
The situation continues to escalate, with analysts warning of heightened regional tensions. Further developments are expected following the outcome of the NSC meeting.
