PM Shehbaz Sharif Hails Pakistan’s Role in US-Iran Understanding, Calls It “Historic Diplomatic Achievement”

Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday said that Pakistan’s role in facilitating a breakthrough understanding between the United States and Iran has brought unprecedented international recognition to the country.
Addressing the National Assembly, the prime minister said Pakistan acted as a mediator in efforts to bridge differences between the two countries during talks held in Switzerland, resulting in a joint statement and a ceasefire agreement.
He added that an MoU was signed between the United States and Iran with Pakistan’s participation as a mediator, and expressed optimism that the next 60 days of technical negotiations would lead to a comprehensive and lasting agreement.
Shehbaz Sharif said Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts had been widely highlighted on the front pages of major international newspapers, including The Washington Post, Financial Times, and The New York Times, calling it a matter of national pride.
“The role Pakistan played is historic and could not have been achieved even with billions of rupees in spending,” he said, adding that the development had enhanced Pakistan’s global standing.
The prime minister also noted that Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian is expected to visit Pakistan soon, and said relations between the two countries have strengthened significantly in recent months.
Reiterating his stance on national development, Shehbaz Sharif said Pakistan’s progress depends on balanced growth across all provinces, including Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Responding to opposition criticism, the prime minister rejected claims regarding resource distribution and governance, saying his statements had been misrepresented. He also referred to the 2018 general elections, alleging irregularities and calling for investigations into past electoral processes.
He concluded his speech by emphasizing national unity and expressing hope that ongoing diplomatic efforts would contribute to global peace and stability.
