Protests Against Sindh Canal Project Continue: Lawyers and Activists Demand Cancellation

The protests against the controversial canal extraction project from the **Indus River** continued today, with lawyers maintaining their sit-in for the fourth consecutive day on the **National Highway** at the **Baberlo Bypass**.

**Karachi Bar Association** President **Ameer Nawaz Waraich** stated that the sit-in would continue until an official notification for the cancellation of the canal project was issued. He further warned that if the project was not canceled, the lawyers would escalate their protests by blocking the **railway track**.

In his speech to the protesters, **Ayaz Latif Palijo**, leader of the **National Peoples Movement**, emphasized that constructing new canals from the Indus River would jeopardize the future of Sindh. He said, *”Diverting the course of the Indus River is not just a threat to Sindh, but also to the unity of the country.”*

Meanwhile, in **Shikarpur**, lawyers have been protesting on the **Indus Highway Bypass** for the second day, halting traffic between Sindh, Punjab, and Balochistan. The sit-ins have caused a significant disruption in transportation and trade.

In addition to these protests, rallies were also held in **Hyderabad**, **Meyer**, **Daharki**, and other cities, where people have voiced their opposition to the canal project, rallying against what they call an environmental and economic threat to the region.

The ongoing protests reflect deep concern within Sindh about the potential long-term consequences of the canal project on the province’s water supply, agricultural lands, and the livelihoods of millions.
