US to Take Legal Action Against Foreign Nationals Failing to Register Under Alien Registration Act

Starting this Saturday, the United States will begin legal proceedings against foreign nationals who have been in the country for more than 30 days without registering under the **Alien Registration Act**.

**Secretary of Homeland Security, Kirstjen Neilsen**, had earlier warned all foreign nationals to take advantage of the April 11 deadline to register as required by federal law. Failure to do so will result in severe legal consequences.

### **Legal Ramifications for Non-Compliance**
According to the law, foreign nationals who do not comply will be considered **criminals** and may face **fines**, **imprisonment**, or both penalties simultaneously.

Secretary Neilsen emphasized that both **President Trump** and she are sending a **clear message** to those living illegally in the U.S. that they must leave the country. Those who do leave will be given a chance to return in the future and enjoy the “American Dream” under legal circumstances.

Additionally, Neilsen made it clear that the **Trump Administration** is committed to **strict enforcement** of all immigration laws and there will be no “pick and choose” policy. The administration intends to know exactly who is living in the U.S. and ensuring that they contribute to the safety and security of the nation.

### **Executive Order and Registration Requirements**
On **January 20, 2025**, President Trump signed an **Executive Order** aimed at protecting the American people from external threats, ensuring the rule of law in the immigration system, and holding individuals accountable. The order also mandated the implementation of the **Alien Registration Act**.

Under this law, any foreign national who has been in the U.S. for **30 days or more** by **April 11, 2025**, is required to register with the **U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS)**.

If individuals enter the U.S. after **April 11, 2025**, without registration, they will be given **30 days** to ensure their registration. Additionally, foreign children turning **14 years old** are also required to **re-register** and submit their **fingerprints** within 30 days of their 14th birthday. This applies even to children who were previously registered.

Parents or guardians of children under the age of **14** are instructed to ensure that their children are registered if they have been in the U.S. for **30 days or more**.

### **Proof of Registration and Ongoing Obligations**
Upon successful registration, the **Department of Homeland Security** will issue **proof of registration** documents to individuals. **Foreign nationals aged 18 or older** will be required to carry this documentation at all times.

Non-compliance with the registration process will leave individuals with no place to seek refuge, as **enforcement of the law** will remain a **priority** for the **Department of Homeland Security**.

This move by the U.S. government emphasizes the **rigorous enforcement** of immigration laws and aims to increase accountability among foreign nationals residing in the U.S. without proper documentation.
