Livestock Department Issues Alert on Lumpy Skin Disease Threat to Livestock in Khuzdar

Khuzdar:The Livestock Department of Balochistan has issued an alert regarding the spread of Lumpy Skin Disease (LSD) affecting livestock in Khuzdar. The disease, which is highly dangerous for animals, has already been reported in several areas of Sindh, including Moro and Naushahro Feroze.

In a media briefing, Dr. Muhammad Anwar Zehri, District Officer for Livestock Khuzdar, confirmed the outbreak, advising livestock traders and farmers to avoid purchasing animals from Sindh, where the disease is spreading rapidly. He mentioned that during the 2022-23 period, LSD resulted in the deaths of thousands of animals in Sindh and its surrounding areas. The disease is now resurfacing and spreading swiftly, posing a significant threat to the livestock sector.

Dr. Zehri further emphasized that the Director General of Livestock Balochistan has issued instructions to all authorities to take immediate precautions and monitor the movement of animals coming from Sindh. The department’s staff has been put on high alert to manage any emergency situation effectively.

The department is urging livestock owners and traders to take necessary precautions to prevent the spread of this potentially fatal disease to Balochistan’s livestock.
