Balochistan Government Faces Criticism for Traffic Disruptions During Victory Day Event

Quetta:On Wednesday, a surprising turn of events unfolded when the Balochistan government, which had previously issued strict warnings against road blockages and restricted access to the Red Zone, itself violated these directives. The government organized a grand **Victory Day** ceremony at the Hockey Ground in Quetta, marking Pakistan’s victory over India. However, the event caused major disruptions in the city’s traffic system.

As part of the event, roads were closed, and large containers were placed on key routes, leading to severe traffic jams across the city. Citizens faced significant obstacles in accessing vital roads, causing considerable inconvenience. Central routes to the Red Zone were completely sealed off, making it impossible for people to carry out their daily activities. Vehicles were stuck for hours, forcing residents to resort to alternative routes.

Earlier, government officials had repeatedly warned that road closures in sensitive areas would result in legal action. However, the government’s own disregard for these regulations on Wednesday caused concern among the public. Citizens expressed their dissatisfaction with this double standard, urging the authorities to plan public events more effectively to minimize disruption to everyday life.

This situation highlighted the importance of consistent and effective policy implementation, prioritizing the public’s welfare. It also raised questions about the fairness and consistency of enforcement when the government itself was seen flouting the very rules it had set for the public.

Additionally, another major event, a **”Million March”** organized by the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F), is scheduled to take place at the same Hockey Ground. This is expected to again cause traffic disruptions throughout the city. It is noteworthy that the government has previously suggested holding public gatherings in suburban or designated areas to avoid disrupting daily life in central city areas.

This series of events calls for a reconsideration of how public events are planned and executed, ensuring that the lives of ordinary citizens are not unduly affected.
