X (Former Twitter) Faces Major Outage, Not Caused by Cyberattack

Global:X (formerly Twitter) experienced a significant outage, preventing users in Pakistan and across the world from accessing the platform. Contrary to claims by the platform’s owner, Elon Musk, the issue was not the result of a cyberattack.

Reports began emerging around 1:45 PM (Pakistan Standard Time) that X’s services were disrupted, causing users to face issues with loading posts, timelines, and profiles.

This downtime coincided with Musk’s earlier claims that the disruption was due to a large-scale cyberattack, which he suggested involved a sophisticated group or even a nation-state. Musk further speculated that the IP addresses linked to the attack came from the region of Ukraine.

However, cybersecurity experts dismissed this narrative. A detailed report by *Wired* referenced multiple researchers who argued that there was no clear evidence to link the attack to Ukraine.

Security professionals revealed that the issue might have stemmed from vulnerabilities in X’s infrastructure. Reports indicate that the platform’s core servers had been left unsecured, providing attackers with an opportunity to target them directly. Following the incident, the company took steps to secure the servers.

This is not the first time Musk has attributed platform failures to mysterious cyberattacks. Last year, during a live-streaming event with former President Donald Trump, Musk made similar claims, which were later refuted by fact-checkers.

Although X has yet to issue an official statement clarifying the issue, the available evidence suggests that technical errors, rather than foreign adversaries, were responsible for the outage.
