US Delays Tariffs on Canada and Mexico Products for One Month

Washington:The United States has postponed the implementation of tariffs on products from Canada and Mexico for one month. According to foreign news agencies, President Donald Trump signed an executive order delaying the tariffs until April 2.
This decision came after discussions between President Trump and the President of Mexico, as well as talks with Canadian officials. In a media statement, President Trump stated that the tariffs on Canada and Mexico would now be delayed until April 2, calling the day an important one in American history. He also mentioned that Canada and India impose the highest taxes on American products.
Trump further discussed his conversations with Hamas regarding the release of hostages in Gaza, stating that all hostages held in Gaza must be released and that Gaza should be managed more effectively, something that has been neglected in the past.
In addition, President Trump highlighted the significant financial support the U.S. has given to Ukraine, stating that he hopes for a swift ceasefire agreement between Russia and Ukraine. He also mentioned his good relationship with Chinese President Xi Jinping, expressing optimism that issues with China, particularly regarding TikTok, would be resolved.
Trump also criticized the Biden administration’s policies regarding Afghanistan, stating that the country suffered due to their mistakes. He expressed interest in trade agreements with Saudi Arabia and Russia and argued that countries failing to adequately fund their defense should not be entitled to defense protection.
On the other hand, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau stated that all retaliatory measures by Canada would remain in place until the U.S. fully withdraws its tariffs.
It’s worth noting that last month, President Trump announced a 25% tariff on products from Mexico and Canada, and a 10% tariff on China. Following this, Canada declared its intention to impose a 25% tariff on U.S. products as a response. The 25% tariff on Canadian and Mexican products was originally set to take effect on March 4 but has now been delayed for one month.
