USA Sets New World Record for Defending the Lowest Total in ODI History

Islamabad (Qudrat Daily) – The United States has set a new world record for successfully defending the lowest total in a One Day International (ODI) match.
In a match of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup League 2, the U.S. team defeated Oman on Tuesday, achieving this remarkable feat. The match was played at the Al Amerat Cricket Stadium in Oman, where the host team won the toss and invited the U.S. to bat first.
The U.S. team was bowled out for just 122 runs in the 36th over. Oman’s Shakil Ahmed took 3 wickets, while Aamir Kaleem, Shreewastoo, Jay Odidra, and Siddhart each claimed one wicket.
In reply, Oman could only manage 65 runs in the 26th over before being dismissed. The U.S. bowlers dominated, with Nusthosh taking 5 wickets, Milind Kumar and Yasir Mohammad each taking 2 wickets, and Harmit Singh claiming 1 wicket.
Thus, the U.S. team successfully defended the low total of 123 runs, winning by 57 runs and setting a new world record for defending the lowest total in ODI history. Previously, this record was held by India, which successfully defended 125 runs against Pakistan in the 1985 Rothmans Four Nations Cup in Sharjah. India won that match by 38 runs, bowling Pakistan out for just 87 runs.
In addition to this milestone, another unique record was set in the match between the U.S. and Oman. For the first time in the history of 4,671 ODI matches, an entire match was bowled by spin bowlers, with no deliveries bowled by fast bowlers. Oman used 5 spin bowlers, and the U.S. employed 4 spinners. A total of 19 wickets fell, all taken by spinners, and one player was run out.
This match also tied the record for the most wickets taken by spinners in an ODI match. The previous record was set in 2011 during the ODI between Bangladesh and Pakistan in Chittagong, where 19 wickets were also taken by spinners.
