AB de Villiers Announces Comeback to Cricket After Four-Year Break

Former South African cricket captain AB de Villiers has announced his return to cricket, much to the excitement of fans worldwide. After retiring from all formats of the game in 2018 and stepping away from franchise cricket in 2021, de Villiers will once again step onto the field to play in the World Championship of Legends later this year.
De Villiers, who last played for Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Indian Premier League, confirmed he will not only represent South Africa Champions in the upcoming edition of the tournament but also take on the role of team captain. The World Championship of Legends is a T20 tournament featuring retired and uncontracted cricket legends from around the globe.
Reflecting on his decision to return to cricket, de Villiers explained that four years ago, he retired because he had lost his desire to play. However, with his son now taking up the sport, de Villiers said his passion for cricket has reignited. He stated, “It feels like the desire to play is coming back, and I am excited to get back into the gym and the nets as I prepare for the tournament in July.”
Fans are eagerly anticipating his return to the field, with many excited to see the versatile batter back in action. The co-owner of South Africa Champions, Amndeep Singh, expressed his pride in having such a legendary player back in the team, while co-owner Harry Singh praised de Villiers for his ongoing love for the game and his inspirational influence on millions.
The second edition of the World Championship of Legends will take place in July 2025, promising thrilling cricket action. The first season’s final featured a highly competitive match between Pakistan and India, where India emerged victorious.
