Opposition Parties Considering No-Confidence Motion Against Shehbaz Government With Bilawal Bhutto’s Support: Hamid Mir

ISLAMABAD: Senior journalist Hamid Mir has claimed that opposition parties are developing a consensus to seek Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s support for bringing a no-confidence motion against the government of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

Speaking on Geo News, Hamid Mir said opposition parties were increasingly of the view that the government should no longer be supported and that the political situation could become more tense in the coming days.

He described the current situation as an act of political retaliation, recalling that when Imran Khan was prime minister, Nawaz Sharif and Shehbaz Sharif were in jail, and alleging that Shehbaz Sharif now did not want Imran Khan to be released.

Commenting on the issue surrounding Imran Khan’s transfer to hospital, Mir said there were not enough PTI workers outside Shifa Hospital to prevent the authorities from taking Imran Khan there. He also claimed that the government was not concerned about possible contempt of court proceedings.

Mir said opposition parties that had previously remained outside the PTI camp could also join hands with the party. He said a joint meeting of opposition parties was scheduled for Monday, while the PPP was also consulting internally about its future political strategy.

According to Mir, the majority view within the opposition was reportedly in favour of withdrawing support from the government, even if doing so required political sacrifices.

He recalled that Shehbaz Sharif, along with Maulana Fazlur Rehman, Bilawal Bhutto and other political leaders, had previously supported a no-confidence motion against Imran Khan’s government.

Mir said a similar consensus was now emerging among opposition parties to bring a no-confidence motion against the Shehbaz Sharif government with Bilawal Bhutto’s support.

He predicted that the political situation could deteriorate further and said both the government and PTI could face political consequences, although he expected the government to suffer significant damage.
