Opposition Alliance Accuses Government of ‘Drama’ Over Imran Khan’s Health, Retains September 27 Protest Decision

ISLAMABAD: The opposition alliance has accused the government of staging what it described as a “drama” over the health of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, saying that failure to implement Supreme Court decisions amounts to contempt of court.
The opposition alliance reiterated its decision to hold a major protest on September 27 and announced that all opposition parties would be invited to participate in the protest and long march.
According to a statement issued after a parliamentary opposition meeting chaired by Mahmood Khan Achakzai, participants expressed deep concern over Imran Khan’s health and reiterated that there would be no compromise on his treatment.
The meeting was attended by Senator Raja Nasir, Barrister Gohar, Asad Qaiser, Sohail Afridi and Salman Akram Raja.
The participants alleged that the government had created a “drama” over Imran Khan’s health and said non-compliance with Supreme Court orders constituted contempt of court.
The meeting decided to intensify public contact campaigns across the country, including Punjab, ahead of the September 27 protest and long march.
According to the declaration, the participants reaffirmed their commitment to continuing a joint struggle for the Constitution, democracy and the rule of law. They also agreed that all political and parliamentary decisions of the opposition would be taken through mutual consultation.
The meeting endorsed the Grand Opposition Alliance and agreed to make it more active and effective. The participants welcomed Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman and other parties joining the alliance.
They expressed the view that a broader opposition alliance would strengthen the opposition’s voice in Parliament.
