No New Province Will Be Created in Sindh, No Matter What: Saeed Ghani
KARACHI: Sindh Local Government Minister Saeed Ghani has taken a firm position against the creation of a new province in Sindh, saying the provincial government will not accept such a move under any circumstances.
Speaking to the media, Ghani said the people of Sindh were not in favour of creating a new province. He warned that any attempt to impose such a decision by force could have serious consequences and create deep mistrust and hatred among the people.
Referring to the ongoing debate over the creation of new provinces, Ghani said he had responded the day after the Interior Minister raised the issue. He added that the Interior Minister had no political standing in Sindh and that he would respond to anyone who spoke on the matter.
He also commented on a statement from the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), saying that while the military’s media wing had responded to a question, it was not its responsibility to decide whether new provinces should be created.
Ghani said the situation in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was different. If the assemblies of Punjab or KP passed resolutions concerning their respective provinces, they would be free to make decisions regarding their own affairs.
Discussing local government and development projects, the provincial minister acknowledged that Town Municipal Corporations were facing a severe shortage of resources, which had resulted in delays in completing several projects.
Despite the financial constraints, he said work on IT facilities, playgrounds, roads and streets was progressing rapidly across Karachi. He stressed that residents also needed access to basic services, quality education and healthcare.

Ghani cited the example of Shaheed Najeeb Alam School, which he said had been transformed from a dilapidated building into a quality educational institution. He said maintaining its standards would require full ownership and participation from local residents.
He appealed to parents to send their children to school and monitor the performance of teachers and staff.
The minister said the Pakistan Peoples Party government had undertaken large-scale development projects across Karachi, including Korangi, and would continue working with local government institutions to address public needs and problems.
