Balochistan IGP Reviews Security Arrangements at Quetta Police Stations and Sensitive Locations

QUETTA: Inspector General of Police Balochistan Muhammad Tahir visited several key police facilities, police stations and sensitive locations in Quetta to review security arrangements, police performance and measures aimed at preventing crime.

The IGP was accompanied by DIG Quetta Imran Shaukat and SSP Operations Zia-ul-Haq Mandokhail. During the visit, he inspected Sariab Police Station, New Sariab Police Station, the Police Training College (PTC) Centre, Qasim Lines, the Anti-Terrorism Force (ATF) Complex on Eastern Bypass and adjoining areas.

The purpose of the visit was to assess the overall performance of the Quetta police, security arrangements at sensitive locations, police deployment, functioning of police stations and ongoing measures to prevent crime.

Relevant police officers briefed the IGP on the law and order situation, crime trends, patrolling, checkpoints, search operations, performance of police stations and operational challenges in their respective areas.

Muhammad Tahir directed police officers to ensure the protection of citizens’ lives and property and to intensify indiscriminate action against criminal elements.

He emphasized that the primary responsibility of the police was to protect citizens, listen to their concerns and ensure the rule of law. He instructed officers to ensure courteous treatment of citizens visiting police stations and to address their complaints promptly in accordance with the law.

During the inspection, the IGP reviewed various sections of the police stations, including record rooms, lock-ups and duty rooms, and sought information about administrative matters. He also assessed police attendance, deployment, patrolling systems and facilities available to personnel.

The IGP said maintaining law and order in Quetta, the provincial capital, was one of the police force’s foremost responsibilities. He directed officers to strengthen patrolling and surveillance across the city and regularly review security arrangements at important and sensitive locations.

He specifically ordered increased police patrols in Sariab, New Sariab, Eastern Bypass and adjoining areas, with strict monitoring of suspicious activities.

Muhammad Tahir directed police officers to remain present in the field instead of limiting themselves to offices and personally monitor policing arrangements in their respective jurisdictions.

He said modern technology, effective intelligence gathering, timely information sharing and improved field policing were essential to controlling crime and maintaining law and order.

The IGP made it clear that negligence in taking action against lawbreakers would not be tolerated, while emphasizing that all police operations must be conducted strictly in accordance with the law and established procedures.

He also stressed the importance of improving relations between the police and the public, saying police personnel were guardians of citizens and their conduct shaped the public perception of the department.

“A police station should not be a place of fear for citizens, but a centre for justice and grievance redressal,” he said.

He directed officers to establish effective systems at the police-station level for resolving public complaints and ensure that no complaint remained pending unnecessarily. He also ordered regular monitoring of FIR registration, investigations, arrests and progress in criminal cases.

The IGP also visited the Police Training College Centre, Qasim Lines and the ATF Complex, where he reviewed the training, professional capabilities, discipline and operational preparedness of police personnel.

He stressed the need to align police training with modern requirements, including weapons handling, investigative skills, intelligence-based policing, emergency response, identification of suspicious activities and protection of civilians.

During his visit to Qasim Lines and the ATF Complex, Muhammad Tahir appreciated the morale and commitment of police personnel. He paid tribute to the sacrifices of Balochistan Police martyrs, saying their services were a source of pride for the department and the nation.

He urged officers and personnel to perform their duties with honesty, discipline and dedication, warning that negligence could adversely affect both the police department and public safety.

The IGP also called for stronger coordination between police and local communities, including tribal elders, traders, citizens and other segments of society, to obtain timely information about criminal and suspicious activities.

He directed police officers to remain in contact with peace committees, community elders and public representatives and take steps to address public concerns on a priority basis.

During the visit, DIG Quetta Imran Shaukat and SSP Operations Zia-ul-Haq Mandokhail briefed the IGP on the law and order situation in Quetta, police deployment, patrolling arrangements, security at key locations, crime prevention measures and ongoing police operations.

Muhammad Tahir directed the relevant officers to further strengthen security arrangements in all important and sensitive areas of Quetta, improve police patrolling and maintain operational readiness to respond to emergencies.

He said maintaining peace and security in Quetta remained a top priority for Balochistan Police and all available resources would be utilized for this purpose.

The IGP also directed officers to analyze crime trends in their jurisdictions and promote modern policing alongside traditional methods. He stressed that the welfare of police personnel, residential facilities and basic requirements during duty should also be given due priority.

He said a strong, well-trained, disciplined and professional police force was essential for providing effective protection to citizens.

At the conclusion of the visit, Muhammad Tahir directed police officers and personnel to further improve their performance, ensure prompt resolution of public complaints, accelerate legal action against criminal elements and take all possible measures to provide the people of Quetta with a safe and peaceful environment.
