Mahmood Khan Achakzai Urges PM Shehbaz to Appoint Chief Election Commissioner Without Delay

ISLAMABAD: Opposition Leader Mahmood Khan Achakzai has written a letter to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, urging the immediate appointment of the Chief Election Commissioner and two members of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).
In his letter, Achakzai expressed concern over the delay in filling key positions in the Election Commission. He noted that the terms of the Chief Election Commissioner and the ECP members from Sindh and Balochistan had expired on January 26, 2025.
He said the vacant constitutional positions should be filled immediately to ensure the continuity, independence and credibility of the Election Commission.
Achakzai termed the delay in appointing officials to key positions in the ECP a matter of concern and urged the prime minister to fulfill his constitutional responsibility without further delay.
He called for immediate action to appoint the Chief Election Commissioner as well as the ECP members from Sindh and Balochistan, stressing that filling the vacant positions was essential for the effective functioning of the Election Commission.
