Makkah Pact Is Entirely Defensive, Not Aimed at Any Country: Ishaq Dar

ISLAMABAD: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has said that the Makkah Defense Pact is entirely defensive in nature and is not intended to take action against any country, but rather to strengthen peace and stability in the region.

Speaking to Geo News, Dar said Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye signed the Makkah Defense Pact on August 7. He described the agreement as a reflection of the fraternal ties among the three countries and said it was the result of years of consultation and coordination.

Dar said the purpose of the agreement was to strengthen cooperation in addressing peace and security challenges.

He said the pact would promote peace, stability and prosperity in the region. Under the agreement, an attack on any one of the three member countries would be considered an attack on all three, a principle he said was consistent with Article 51 of the United Nations Charter.

The deputy prime minister reiterated that Pakistan seeks lasting peace and cooperation in the region and remains committed to the peaceful resolution of disputes and ensuring a secure future for the people.
