PTI Founder’s Health Report Misleading, Eye Condition Not Mentioned, Claims Lawyer Salman Safdar
Islamabad: Lawyer Salman Safdar has alleged that the health report of the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) is incomplete and misleading, claiming it does not mention the former prime minister’s reported eye condition.
Speaking to the media outside the Islamabad High Court, Safdar said the report submitted by Adiala Jail authorities was “entirely false and misleading.” He added that the petition before the court challenged the alleged solitary confinement of the PTI founder and his wife, Bushra Bibi.
According to Safdar, the Superintendent of Adiala Jail informed the court that neither of them was being held in solitary confinement. However, he argued that the PTI founder is not being allowed to meet his legal team, let alone family members.
Safdar further stated that Aleema Khan had visited Adiala Jail around 40 times over the past 10 months, but no official register was produced in court showing family visits, lawyer meetings, or phone calls with his children.
He said the court has reserved its decision and expressed hope that a ruling would be announced next week. Safdar also noted that the PTI founder is neither facing terrorism charges nor charges under the Official Secrets Act and has already been acquitted in the cipher case.
Earlier, the Islamabad High Court concluded hearing arguments on the petition against the alleged solitary confinement of the PTI founder and Bushra Bibi, with the court stating that an appropriate order would be issued.
During the hearing, the Islamabad Advocate General denied that the two were being kept in solitary confinement, arguing that security measures were being mischaracterized as isolation. The jail superintendent told the court that more than 500 books had been provided to the PTI founder.
Safdar requested the court to summon both detainees to verify the conditions of their detention, arguing that psychological torture can be more severe than physical torture.
