Balochistan CM Sarfraz Bugti Pledges Safer Highways to Boost Trade and Transport
Quetta: Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti has said that ensuring safe, peaceful, and fully operational highways across the province is essential not only for public convenience but also for promoting trade, transport, and economic growth.
The chief minister made the remarks during a meeting with a delegation of transporters and representatives of the All Pakistan Mazda Truck Goods Transport Association, led by Parliamentary Secretary for Transport Mir Liaquat Ali Lehri.
The meeting focused on challenges facing the transport sector, the law and order situation on national highways, commercial activities, and measures to improve the efficiency of the goods transportation system.
Senior provincial officials, including Transport Secretary Hayat Khan, Special Home Secretary Abdul Salam Khan Achakzai, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister Imran Zarkoon, and Additional Secretary Muhammad Faridun Khan, also attended the meeting.
The delegation, which included Association Chairman Mir Nawab Mengal and several leading transporters and traders, briefed the chief minister on the issues confronting the transport community, difficulties faced during highway travel, and various administrative matters affecting the sector.
Addressing the delegation, Bugti described the transport sector as the backbone of both the provincial and national economy, emphasizing that the government considers resolving its challenges a top priority.
He assured the participants that the legitimate concerns of transporters would be addressed in phases and said relevant departments had already been instructed to take the necessary measures.
The chief minister reiterated that maintaining law and order on national highways remains one of the government’s highest priorities. He said all relevant institutions have been directed to ensure a safe environment for passengers, transport operators, and the business community.
“Making Balochistan’s highways safe, peaceful, and fully functional is essential not only for the public but also for strengthening trade and economic activities,” Bugti said.
He added that the provincial government would continue consulting all stakeholders to introduce reforms aimed at strengthening the transport sector, encouraging business activity, and improving travel facilities for the public.
The delegation thanked the chief minister for assuring them that their concerns would be addressed and pledged continued cooperation with the provincial government.
