Claims of 25 to 30 Deaths in Mirpur, AJK Reach Senate as Senator Kamran Murtaza Seeks Emergency Debate
ISLAMABAD: Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) Senator Kamran Murtaza has submitted a motion under Rule 218 in the Senate regarding the law and order situation in Mirpur, Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), calling for an urgent debate on the matter.
The motion draws the Upper House’s immediate attention to the deteriorating situation in the district, stating that peace and security conditions in Mirpur have remained alarming over the past two months. According to the motion, local civil society representatives and social activists have claimed that between 25 and 30 people have lost their lives in a series of violent incidents during this period.
Senator Murtaza stated that the reported deaths have created widespread concern and unrest among residents, making it imperative for Parliament to address the issue without delay.

The motion further noted that internet services have remained suspended in parts of Azad Kashmir amid the unrest, severely affecting communication among residents and limiting access to information. It added that the communications blackout has made it difficult to ascertain the ground situation in the affected areas.
Calling for immediate parliamentary deliberations, Senator Kamran Murtaza urged the Senate to take up the matter as a question of significant public importance so that issues relating to law and order, the reported loss of lives, and internet disruptions in Azad Kashmir can be examined comprehensively.
He emphasized that, given the gravity of the prevailing situation, urgent attention and appropriate measures are needed to address the concerns of the people and help restore normalcy in the region.
