Islamabad: The Islamabad High Court has scheduled the hearing of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan’s bail plea in the Toshakhana-II case for November 12. The court has issued a notice to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and directed them to respond.
The request for post-arrest bail in the Toshakhana-II case was fixed for hearing by the registrar’s office of the Islamabad High Court. Justice Mian Gul Hassan Aurangzeb will hear the petition on November 12. Last month, the Islamabad High Court had granted bail to Bushra Bibi, Imran Khan’s wife, in the same case.
It is important to note that Special Judge Central had previously rejected Imran Khan’s bail application. In contrast, Bushra Bibi’s bail was granted by the Islamabad High Court after her plea was heard. The case involves allegations that Imran Khan illegally retained and sold ten valuable gifts, including seven watches, which were part of the government’s Toshakhana collection.
On July 13, after Imran Khan and his wife were granted bail in a separate case, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) arrested them in connection with the Toshakhana-II case. According to NAB’s inquiry report, the case involves the illegal retention and sale of valuable gifts, including watches, violating laws regulating the Toshakhana.
However, following the Supreme Court’s decision regarding amendments in NAB laws, the accountability court transferred the case to the FIA. The FIA formed a Joint Investigation Team (JIT) to investigate the case.
On January 31, the Accountability Court sentenced both Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi to 14 years of rigorous imprisonment each in the Toshakhana reference. The court also declared them ineligible for holding any public office for 10 years and imposed a fine of PKR 78.7 million on them.
Following the sentencing, on February 16, Imran Khan filed appeals against the sentences in the Toshakhana, Cypher, and Nikah cases in various courts.
