Simple Trick Can Keep Bananas Fresh for Up to a Month

**Islamabad:** Bananas often ripen quickly and turn black soon after being brought home, leading to wasted fruit. Experts, however, have revealed a simple yet effective method to keep bananas fresh and edible for nearly a month.
**Method:**
1. Take a clean container of water and mix in about one tablespoon of salt.
2. Gently dip the entire banana bunch into the salt water, paying special attention to the stems, which are the first part to spoil.
3. Remove from water and dry carefully with a towel to retain the bananas’ natural moisture.
**Why it works:**
* Salt water reduces the presence of bacteria and fungi on the banana peel.
* Salt slows enzyme activity, delaying the ripening process.
* Drying lowers the chances of black spots and wrinkles forming on the peel.
Wrapping the banana stems with plastic wrap or aluminum foil can further extend freshness by reducing the release of ethylene gas. Keeping bananas separate from other fruits is also recommended, as some fruits release gases that accelerate ripening.
This simple technique helps households enjoy bananas for longer, reducing waste and saving money.
