Pakistan’s Mangoes Can Boost Export Value with Value Addition, UAE Consul General Says

Karachi:The Consul General of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Bakhit Atiq Al-Rumaiti, emphasized the potential of Pakistan’s mango industry to significantly increase its export value through value addition. Speaking at the Future Summit in Karachi, Al-Rumaiti highlighted that Pakistan produces some of the finest mangoes in the world, with strong demand for the fruit in the UAE. However, he stressed the importance of processing and packaging the mangoes in a way that enhances their market value.
Al-Rumaiti explained that while Pakistan’s mangoes are sold for around $10 when they are shipped to Dubai, they are repacked and marketed there for up to $120, thanks to value-added processes. He called for greater investment and collaboration in Pakistan’s agricultural sector to maximize this potential.
“Pakistan’s mangoes have tremendous demand in the UAE, and if we focus on value addition, it could greatly expand both the price and the scale of business. This is not just the responsibility of the government; it’s something that needs collective effort from all stakeholders,” Al-Rumaiti said.
The UAE Consul General also noted that UAE is not involved in politics but focuses on economic growth, with efforts to facilitate investors. He encouraged Pakistani investors to reach out to relevant UAE ministries for support in business ventures.
He also pointed out that food security in the region is a top priority, and every Pakistani visiting Dubai is eager to bring back mangoes as gifts for family members. This highlights the strong market demand and the untapped potential of Pakistan’s agricultural exports in the UAE.
