Pashtunkhwa National Awami Party Raises Alarm Over Armed Groups in Balochistan, Demands Judicial Inquiry

Quetta: The Pashtunkhwa National Awami Party (PkNAP) has expressed serious concern over the reported presence of dozens of armed men in the Shabak Narin area of Breshore district, saying the situation raises critical questions about the state’s writ, the rule of law, and public security in Balochistan.

In a press release, the party claimed that, according to local residents, armed groups have been moving freely in the area for several days, creating fear and uncertainty among the local population. It questioned why no action had been taken despite the presence of security forces and intelligence agencies, asking the authorities to clarify whether they were aware of the groups and under whose protection they were allegedly operating.

PkNAP described the incident as part of a broader deterioration in the province’s law and order situation. The party referred to the recent killing of District and Sessions Judge Abdul Hakim Kakar and other militant attacks as evidence of the worsening security environment.

The party also criticized reports of armed groups allegedly setting up checkpoints on the Kuchlak–Zhob Highway, checking citizens’ identity cards, and carrying out land measurements under the guise of “surveys” in parts of Ziarat district. It said such activities were unlawful and posed a serious challenge to the rule of law if left unchecked.

The statement argued that despite billions of rupees spent annually on security, the deployment of thousands of personnel, and the establishment of hundreds of checkpoints, incidents of terrorism and armed crime continue to rise. It held the federal and provincial governments, along with relevant institutions, responsible for the prevailing security situation.

PkNAP demanded an independent and transparent judicial inquiry into the reported activities of armed groups, recent terrorist attacks, and incidents of targeted killings. The party warned that if authorities failed to ensure public safety, it reserved the right to launch a peaceful protest movement in coordination with other political parties and the public.
