PML-N Lawmaker Questions Alleged Rs8,000 Salaries for MA Graduates, Cites Minimum Wage Law
LAHORE: A Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) lawmaker has criticized the alleged payment of Rs8,000 per month to female MA and MSc graduates employed in schools in Punjab, arguing that the practice violates the province’s minimum wage law.
According to media reports, PML-N Member of the Punjab Assembly Amjad Ali Javed raised the issue during an assembly session. In a video shared on X, he claimed that many highly educated women in Punjab, including MA and MSc graduates, were being employed in schools on monthly salaries of just Rs8,000.
He argued that such payments were in direct violation of the minimum wage legislation passed by the Punjab Assembly.

“Rs8,000 would barely cover the cost of rickshaw fare,” Javed said, criticizing the low salaries reportedly being offered to qualified women.
The remarks come after the Punjab government approved legislation in the provincial budget to regulate the minimum monthly wage at Rs40,000. The government has described the move as a significant step toward protecting workers’ rights and improving economic welfare.
The Punjab Employees’ Social Security (Amendment) Act 2026 was also passed by a majority vote in the Punjab Assembly as part of broader labor welfare reforms.
No official response from the Punjab government regarding the specific allegations raised by the lawmaker had been issued at the time of reporting.
