Fazlur Rehman Accuses Powerful Circles of Exploiting Martyrs’ Blood for Political Purposes
Islamabad: Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman strongly criticized Pakistan’s powerful institutions during a Lawyers’ Convention organized by the JUI Lawyers Forum in Islamabad, accusing them of using the sacrifices of martyrs to conceal their own failures and strengthen political control.
Addressing the convention, Fazlur Rehman expressed concern over the country’s deteriorating security and political situation, claiming that Pakistan is facing growing shortages and instability. He questioned calls for civilians to form armed groups, recalling the experience of East Pakistan, where auxiliary forces such as Al-Badr and Al-Shams fought alongside the military, leaving lasting divisions.
He also alleged growing tensions between law enforcement agencies and the military, citing incidents in Bannu, Lakki Marwat, and Tank. According to him, some police personnel had refused to participate in joint operations with the military, reflecting what he described as a widening institutional divide.
The JUI-F leader accused the ruling establishment of using the blood of martyrs as “fuel” to hide its own mistakes and claimed that state resources were being used primarily to consolidate political power rather than address national challenges. He said his party sought peace but would stand firm whenever circumstances demanded it.
Fazlur Rehman further alleged widespread electoral rigging, claiming ballot boxes from his constituency in Gilgit were recovered from a river. He reiterated that his party had rejected offers to join coalition governments in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, saying it would not become part of any administration formed through what he described as manipulated political processes.
His remarks included serious allegations and political criticism directed at state institutions and the government. The claims have not been independently verified, and the relevant authorities had not publicly responded at the time of his address.
