Pakistan’s Current Account Posts $650 Million Deficit in June 2026

KARACHI: Pakistan’s current account recorded a deficit of $650 million in June 2026, a sharp reversal from the $500 million surplus registered in May 2026, according to data released by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP).

The central bank’s figures showed that the current account had posted a surplus of $220 million in June 2025. However, in June this year, the balance moved into deficit, reflecting a significant deterioration in the country’s external account position.

Overall, during the fiscal year 2025–26, Pakistan’s current account recorded a cumulative deficit of $139 million.

In comparison, the current account had posted a surplus of approximately $1.838 billion during the fiscal year 2024–25.

The latest figures indicate a notable shift in Pakistan’s external sector performance, with the country moving from a current account surplus in the previous fiscal year to a marginal deficit in FY2025–26.
