Lahore Nanbai Association Demands Increase in Roti Price Amid Rising Flour Costs

LAHORE: The Nanbai Association in Lahore has demanded an increase in the price of roti following a rise in flour prices, while the district administration has directed tandoor owners to continue selling bread at government-notified rates.

According to the association, the price of a standard roti should be raised from Rs17 to Rs25. However, it proposed that the price of naan should remain unchanged at Rs30.

In response, the district administration stated that, under the directives of the Punjab government, the official prices of roti and naan remain in effect and must be strictly implemented. Tandoor owners have been instructed to ensure the sale of naan and roti at the notified rates.

The administration reiterated that a 120-gram roti and naan are to be sold at the prices fixed by the government and warned that no unauthorized increase in prices would be tolerated.

Deputy Commissioner Lahore said strict action would be taken against anyone found selling roti or naan above the officially prescribed rates, adding that violators could face legal penalties and other punitive measures.

The demand by the Nanbai Association comes amid growing concerns among bakery and tandoor operators over increasing input costs, particularly the rising price of flour in the provincial capital.
