27th Constitutional Amendment Challenged in Supreme Court

**ISLAMABAD (Qudrat Daily):** A petition has been filed in the **Supreme Court** challenging the **27th Constitutional Amendment**, submitted by advocate **Asad Rahim Khan**. The petition seeks a declaration that the amendment is **unconstitutional and invalid**.

The petition requests that the **independence of the judiciary** be upheld and emphasizes that the powers of the **Supreme Court cannot be reduced or nullified under any circumstances**. It also notes that the Supreme Court has, in the past, **halted the implementation of laws pending presidential assent** to ensure legal compliance.

The 27th Amendment was passed by the **National Assembly** with a **two-thirds majority** yesterday. During the session, opposition members **tore copies of the bill** and **boycotted proceedings** in protest at the Speaker’s dais. The amendment includes **eight new changes** to the Constitution.
