JI Balochistan Chief Calls for Acceptance of Ziarat Sit-In Demands, Greater Powers for Levies Force

Quetta: Jamaat-e-Islami Balochistan chief and Member of the Provincial Assembly Maulana Hidayat-ur-Rehman Baloch has expressed concern over the security situation in Balochistan, describing it as alarming and calling for the immediate acceptance of the demands presented by the Ziarat Martyrs’ sit-in.
Speaking at a meeting of the party’s provincial political committee, Hidayat-ur-Rehman said the provincial government appeared ineffective while residents of Quetta and other parts of Balochistan continued to face insecurity.
He described the Ziarat sit-in as a collective voice of the affected families and the public, saying its demands reflect the aspirations of the people and should be accepted without delay.
The meeting reviewed the law and order situation across the province, including incidents of violence and terrorism in Quetta, Mangi, Hanna Urak, and Ziarat, as well as reports of killings, recovery of bodies, ongoing protests, and future political strategy.
Hidayat-ur-Rehman said ensuring security on the province’s highways, in its cities, and across remote areas is the responsibility of the state. He argued that more effective measures are needed to combat terrorism and restore public confidence.
He also called for the Frontier Corps (FC) to be withdrawn from security duties in Balochistan and for the Levies Force to be granted full authority, adequate resources, and modern facilities to improve law enforcement in the province.
The political committee further called for a national conference on peace and public rights in Balochistan, expressing concern over increasing incidents of abduction, killings, terrorism, and insecurity on highways in Baloch and Pashtun areas. It also noted that the prevailing security situation has adversely affected employment, trade, and cross-border economic activity.
The committee urged the government to immediately accept all legitimate demands of the Ziarat sit-in, take effective steps to restore peace, and ensure the protection of citizens’ lives and property.
