Quetta Residents Face Acute Water Shortage as Tanker Prices Soar, Calls Grow for Government Action

Quetta: Residents of Quetta are facing a severe water crisis, with many relying on private water tankers amid allegations that the so-called “tanker mafia” is charging exorbitant prices while authorities have failed to intervene.

According to local residents, the cost of a single water tanker now ranges from Rs3,000 to Rs8,000, placing a heavy financial burden on households, particularly low- and middle-income families.

Citizens say that access to clean drinking water, a basic necessity, is becoming increasingly difficult and have expressed concern over what they describe as the lack of effective measures by the district administration and relevant authorities to regulate prices or ensure an adequate water supply.

Residents have questioned the government’s claims of improving public services, arguing that the provincial capital continues to struggle with the provision of one of the most essential public utilities.

They have urged Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti and the district administration to take immediate steps to address the water shortage, crack down on alleged overpricing by private water tanker operators, and ensure a reliable public water supply to provide relief to residents.
