Chief Justice of Pakistan Warns Against Prolonged Litigation Due to Court Remarks
Islamabad: Chief Justice of Pakistan Yahya Afridi has expressed concerns over the potential for lengthy legal battles stemming from seemingly innocuous comments made by the Supreme Court. During a hearing regarding a land dispute, he noted that a single sentence from the court could result in cases dragging on for as long as 18 years.
According to Express News, Chief Justice Afridi stated, “I will not include any observations in my ruling that might lead to the reopening of cases.” His remarks came in response to a lawyer’s request for the court to direct the parties to address the issue with the appropriate forum.
Justice Shahid Bilal Hassan added that litigants can approach the relevant forum without needing additional guidance from the Supreme Court. Ultimately, the court rejected the request to provide such an observation, reinforcing its commitment to minimizing unnecessary prolongation of legal proceedings.
