Achakzai Calls for Resignation Over Ziarat Incident, Alleges Police Left Without Reinforcements
Islamabad: Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP) Chairman and opposition alliance leader Mahmood Khan Achakzai has said that someone should have accepted moral responsibility and resigned following the deadly incident in Ziarat, alleging that besieged police personnel were left without support despite repeatedly seeking assistance.
Speaking at an All Parties Conference (APC) on the security situation in Balochistan in Islamabad, Achakzai described the incident as deeply tragic and said, “Any honorable person should have resigned on moral grounds after the Ziarat incident.”
He claimed that the surrounded police personnel had informed the relevant authorities around 12:00 p.m. that they had run out of ammunition but that no reinforcements were sent to assist them.
According to Achakzai, the alleged official response was marked by negligence, claiming that after 5:00 p.m., even deputy commissioners and other concerned officials stopped answering phone calls.
He further alleged that, after losing hope of receiving official assistance, the stranded personnel were forced to contact their relatives for help.
Achakzai strongly criticized what he described as the state’s failure to protect the officers, calling the alleged inaction a serious lapse on the part of the responsible institutions.
The remarks were made during the opposition-hosted APC and reflect Achakzai’s allegations regarding the handling of the Ziarat incident. Authorities have not publicly responded to these specific claims.
