Repeated Attacks in Hanna Urak Raise Serious Questions Over Government’s Writ, Says Senator Nawab Arbab Umar Farooq Kasi

QUETTA: Awami National Party (ANP) Senator Nawab Arbab Umar Farooq Kasi has expressed grave concern over the recent attack in Hanna Urak on the outskirts of Quetta, criticizing the government’s handling of the security situation and calling for immediate measures to protect residents.

In a statement, the senator said the recurring incidents of terrorism in Hanna Urak and surrounding areas reflect the urgent need for more effective action to maintain law and order.

Kasi said repeated attacks in the area have created widespread fear among local residents. He recalled that armed men had also attacked people in Killi Babri about a week earlier, prompting tribal elders and residents to stage a protest sit-in.

According to the senator, government representatives had assured tribal elders during the protest that those responsible would be brought to justice, leading to the end of the sit-in. However, he said another attack occurred in the same area before even a week had passed, further increasing anxiety among the local population.

He stated that such incidents raise serious questions about the government’s performance and the state’s ability to maintain its writ in the affected areas.

Kasi urged the government to acknowledge the seriousness of the situation and take immediate and effective steps to safeguard the lives and property of citizens. He stressed that ensuring public security is the primary responsibility of the state and law enforcement agencies.

He warned that if people are repeatedly forced to protect themselves due to inadequate security, public confidence in state institutions could be undermined.

The ANP senator called for stronger security arrangements in Hanna Urak and other sensitive areas, demanding that those responsible for the attacks be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law. He also urged the government to formulate a comprehensive strategy to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Expressing condolences to the families of those killed in the attack, Kasi said he stood with the bereaved families during their time of grief and prayed for the departed souls and for patience for their loved ones.

He also wished the injured a speedy recovery and urged the government to ensure they receive the best possible medical treatment without delay.

Kasi concluded by emphasizing the need for all relevant institutions to adopt a coordinated and effective strategy to restore peace in Hanna Urak and surrounding areas, eliminate terrorism, and enable residents to live without fear and resume their normal lives.
