Prisoners Escape from Police Van Near Rawalpindi After Pepper Spray Attack; Four Recaptured

Rawalpindi:** Several prisoners escaped from a police transport van near Rawalpindi after allegedly staging a fight and using pepper spray to overpower officers during transit from Kahuta to Adiala Jail.
According to police sources, **34 inmates** were being transported back to **Adiala Jail** after appearing before a court in **Kahuta**. As the vehicle reached the **Chakian Post** area near **Sihala**, some prisoners allegedly pretended to be fighting inside the van.
Hearing the commotion, the driver stopped the vehicle and a police officer opened the van’s door. The prisoners then allegedly sprayed pepper into the officer’s eyes before jumping out and fleeing the scene.
Police personnel, including the van driver and the officer in charge, immediately chased the escapees and managed to recapture **four prisoners**, while several others succeeded in escaping. Authorities have launched a large-scale search operation to locate the remaining fugitives.
The **City Police Officer (CPO) Rawalpindi** has taken notice of the incident and ordered the immediate arrest of all escaped prisoners. The **SP Operations** reached the scene to supervise the ongoing search operation.
Police said the escaped inmates are facing trial in serious criminal cases, including murder.
Following the incident, **five police officers** assigned to the van’s security detail were taken into custody. Investigators have seized their mobile phones and begun examining their call records as part of the inquiry into the security breach.
