Pakistanis Faced Record-High Fuel Prices and Historic Petroleum Levy Burden in FY2025–26

Pakistan’s fiscal year 2025–26 proved to be financially challenging for consumers, who were forced to pay the highest petrol and diesel prices in the country’s history while also bearing a record petroleum levy.
According to available official figures, during the fiscal year ending on June 30, 2026, the government increased the price of high-speed diesel by up to Rs257.76 per litre and petrol by as much as Rs199.98 per litre.
The sharp rise in fuel prices significantly increased transportation and living costs, placing additional financial pressure on households and businesses across the country.
Consumers also faced the highest petroleum levy ever imposed, adding to the overall cost of fuel throughout the fiscal year.
The record fuel prices and increased petroleum levy made FY2025–26 one of the most expensive years for motorists and fuel consumers in Pakistan’s history.
